Music Education

Anja started playing piano at the age of seven in a classical music school in her hometown Ljubljana, Slovenia with an established Slovenian piano teacher Darja Kajfez. At the age of 12 she already performed a solo classical concert.

 

Anja continued her music education at the Conservatory of music Ljubljana with a renowned Croatian classical and jazz pianist Veljko Glodic, and majored in jazz piano.

 

Performing 

Throughout her studies and afterwards, Anja has gained broad experience in performing as a soloist as well as with various bands, be it jazz combos, big bands or rock/pop bands. She was a regular member of the Big Band Vrhnika 2002-2007. Anja also got an opportunity to play with the Slovenian Radio big band at the 2006 Slovenian song contest in the open air theatre Krizanke in Ljubljana, to an audience of about 3500 people, and with a live broadcast on national TV.

 

She has also been working as an accompanist with classical singers, jazz singers, instrumentalists as well as choirs, such as The Ljubljana Youth Choir Veter, which she also accompanied in The Slovenian National Philharmonic Hall in 2003. Most recently, February 2014, she accompanied Tina Silc, Slovenian mezzo-soprano in Madrid (Paraninfo theatre) and Valladolid (Casa Cervantes), Spain at classical recitals for the Slovenian culture day. In July they also performed in the Slovenian Parliament as part of the 14. Conference for Slovenians Abroad. 

 

Since moving to Dublin in 2008, Anja has become quite active on the local music scene. She has been regularly performing with an Irish songwriter, Keith Burke and his band The Little Black Book.

With the band she played different music venues in Dublin as well as festivals such as Castlepalooza, The Skerries Soundwaves festival and Phizzfest. Together with Keith, she co-founded a weekly music night “A bit of a swing” in 2012 that is still ongoing, taking place in Jack Nealon pub in Dublin. Anja is also a part of the Dublin Google jazz band Stolen Coat, performing at corporate functions and social events.

 

 

Teaching

Apart from performing, Anja has a great passion for teaching and has experience in teaching children of a very young age as well as adults. She gives individual lessons of classical as well as as pop music and can also prepares arrangements on different songs on request. She also prepares students for graded exams at RIAM and ABRSM.

In 2013, Anja founded her own mobile piano school Piano Lessons Dublin (pianolessonsdublin.com).
